So here we are at the dining table. Me and Arunima having dinner.Just to involve Aru so that she would finish the boring dal n rice I said "Today you tell me a story Aru. " to which she willingly agreed
Aru - "Do you know Ramayana?"
Me- "Little bit. Can you tell me ?"
Aru - "Sure. So first who is Lakshman ?"
Me - "Ram's brother"
Aru - "Ya..but he is a copy cat. Wants to go to a forest if his brother is going, wants to wear same clothes, hold a bow and copy him in everything. COPY CAT"
Me - "Hmmm. Oh that's bad "
Aru - "Do you know who is Bharat's copy cat ? Shatrughan"
Me - "ok"
Aru - "So when they get back from the forest after 14 yrs, Ram became king and celebrated Diwlai. Bharat and Shatrughan became beggars .(oops)
Then one of them , I forgot which one wanted to enter Ram's palace but the guards did not allow him. He requested that Ram is my friend 'n' please allow me .....wait Oh this happened in Krishna story ..Sorry "
Me trying to control my laughter- "Oh ya...Krishna - Sudama. Okay you carry on with Ramayana"
Aru - "Ravan's Sister or wife, someone out of them goes to marry Ram. Ram sees the evil necklace in her neck 'n' understands she is bad. He says am married, you can marry Lakshman.
But then Lakshman also sees the evil necklace she is wearing and boom cuts her nose " (I didn't know this evil necklace aspect;-))
"and she goes to her brother Ravan complaining" (atleast now Aru is clear she is not Ravan's wife )
Aru - "Do you know how this girl Sita got married to Ram"
Me - I shook my head
Aru - "From among many princes, the one who would break the bow would marry Sita and Ram broke it.So he married her". Breaking the bow, interesting
Aru - "Eeekkkkkkkkssss"
Me - "What happened ?"
Aru - "Nothing. Just remembered Ram is blue in colour...." (now I got a hint where all this was coming from)
"But he is an intelligent guy and this Sita My God..on seeing the golden dear, asks him a million or billion times to get it. This dear is a monster who can look and sound like anyone. When Ram shoots an arrow he cries in Ram's voice. Sita asks Lakshman to go. Lakshman is also an intelligent guy(COPY CAT ;-)) and knows it's not his brother but goes on putting that line - Oh what is it called ??? "
Aru was struggling but I didn't help
"Ya that Lakshman Rekha ..in Hindi. In English it is called Lakshman Line " OMG I didn't know that either
Aru - "Ravan takes away Sita in his flying chariot and someone from Hanuman's army sees him. Do you know about the sweet squirrel who helped in making the bridge to Lanka"
Me - "No I don't" and actually speaking I didn't.
Aru - "She takes mud on her back , jiggels it and it changes to stone. This is how all the stones were made for the bridge. Then Ram picks her up and loves her." ....Really ????
Aru - "Now Now Mom should I tell you a very important and special thing "
Me - "Yes"
Aru - "Usually stones sink in water. Right ? But if we write Ram on them they float. Those stone were used for making the bridge. Seems Ram gave all his power to the stones so that they could float "
Arunima pauses and starts smiling.
Aru - "Mom Ram is God and would be happy to hear me speak about him . Isn't it ?" (am not sure of that sweetie. He would be confused like me am sure ;-))
Aru suddenly - "Enough of story - Now quiz time mommy"
Me not prepared for a quiz but - "Okay go ahead. let it come "
Aru - "Who was Meghnath ?" Smart girl...didn't tell me about him at all and asking .
Me - "I don't know" acting ignorant
Aru - "He was Ravan's Son and Lakshman killed him. Okay second question - Who is Kumbhkaran"
Me - "Aru you didn't tell about him either"
Aru very happy and chuckling - "That's what a clever quiz master is . Don't worry I'll tell - He is the biggest guy of the world. We have to run for kilometers to measure him .One foot of his is as big as our dining table and he sleeps and sleeps forever. Got it ?"
Got it ma'am :))
And finally Aru concludes - "So mommy you know nothing about Ramayana, sit and watch it with me someday."
Darling I guess I need to sit and read it to you someday No more cartoooooooooooooooonssss .
